Arismendi, 22, for whom Stoke paid £2.5million to Nacional in August last year, has made only two appearances for the Potters and spent the final two months of last season on loan at Brighton.
Tykes manager Mark Robins told the club’s official website: “I’m very pleased that Stoke City have allowed him to come here.
Arismendi is “one for the future” according to Stoke boss Tony Pulis, who loaned the midfielder to Brighton for the final two months of last season.
